Miss UGA Scholarship Competition

About the Competition

Audrey Kittila was crowned Miss University of Georgia 2022

The Miss University of Georgia Scholarship Competition provides opportunities for UGA women to achieve their personal and professional ambitions. It is a preliminary competition and not-for-profit affiliate of the Miss Georgia Scholarship Organization. Licensed by the Miss America Organization (MAO), the program works to empower young women through education and service. MAO is comprised of 51 organizations, including all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The Miss University of Georgia Competition was established in 1961 and has been a continuous running competition every year since. During six decades University of Georgia women have been recognized and honored for their contributions to the University, their local community and the Athens area. Previous winners of the competition have gone on to hold careers in music, law, medicine, education, business and TV news. In recent years the Miss UGA Competition has made available more than $4,000 in scholarships annually to the winner and top finalists.

In June 2018, the Miss America Organization announced some sweeping changes to the program. Once called a “pageant,” it is now referred to as a “competition.” The swimsuit portion of the competition has been eliminated, announcing that contestants will no longer be judged on outward physical appearance. In their press release on June 5, 2018, the organization announced that “Miss America will represent a new generation of female leaders focused on scholarship, social impact, talent and empowerment. The new mission statement is: To prepare great women for the world, and to prepare the world for great women.”

The Miss University of Georgia Competition will conform to the new MAO changes. We encourage any UGA young woman who is a currently enrolled student for Fall semester and will be enrolled the following Spring semester and is between the ages of 18 and 25 to become a contestant. Applications and guidelines will be available on this website.

Currently the competition will include a private interview with a panel of judges and the on-stage competition will include talent, evening wear / social impact statement, and on-stage question. There is no swimsuit competition.

Applications for the 2023 competition are available from September 30th thru November 30th, 2022. (See Contestant Information). The 2023 Miss University of Georgia Competition will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 in the Fine Arts Theatre.

The Miss University of Georgia Competition is a program within the Department  of Engagement, Leadership and Service in the Tate Student Center.  For information contact Jerry Anthony at missuga@uga.edu  or call (706) 540-1739.
