HIGHLIGHTS FROM STUDENT AFFAIRS

On Sept. 21, more than 500 University of Georgia students participated in Dawg Day of Service, UGA’s largest annual day of student-led community service. Celebrating its 11th year, the event set records for the number of participating students and service sites, highlighting students’ growing commitment to community involvement.
Welcome UGA continues its campus-wide celebration into the new year for incoming and returning students. Various departments and organizations hosted not just events, but opportunities to connect with students as they begin a new semester - fostering a sense of belonging for them on campus.
Researchers and educators at the University of Georgia Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant work in a unique kind of lab. On Skidaway Island, staff are surrounded on every side by miles of salt marsh and towering oak trees with vibrant, twisting branches covered in Spanish moss. Egrets soar overhead and squareback crabs scurry over their boots as they cross the maritime forest floor.
UGA Student Affairs’ Department of Engagement, Leadership, and Service (ELS) announces it has awarded scholarships totaling over $75,000 for the 2023-2024 academic year. With these scholarships, ELS hopes to reduce financial barriers that hinder student success and engagement.
The following University of Georgia students have been named 2022 recipients of the Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander Building Bridges Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to students who exhibit excellence in their commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts on campus.
Tanner Nelson, a first-year student from Columbus, has been named the 2022 Bradley-Turner Leadership Scholar at the University of Georgia. The scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students who exhibit superior leadership capabilities while in high school and who aspire to be student leaders at UGA.
